Squeezing Yoga Into Your Day

A full on practice every day isn't my reality and probably not yours, but it is possible to sneak yoga in throughout your day. One of my quickie yoga fixes is Mountain pose whenever life forces me to queue up at the grocery or the bank. Quickly scanning a adjusting myself is a good posture reminder and it's not something that anyone standing around with me would necessarily notice.

My feet, or foundation, are a particular point of interest because I have flat feet that roll in. The arches collapse and overall this is just not good for my knees and hips long term. So I am constantly checking in with my feet and Mountain Pose is a good way to do it.

But there is nothing stopping you from breaking out into a full on pose either. A quick Tree or Triangle before or after that washroom or trip to the break room does a body, and a mood, good.

I am always reminding my students that legs on the couch while they watch their favorite show or just sitting in Easy Pose on the floor instead of slouching into the sofa pays off handsomely from a physical standpoint. My daughter is a fan of Shoulderstand when watching movies and I will sit in comfortable crossed legged even when I am at the dinner table if there is clearance enough between chair and table.

It's a lot easier than you would think to do yoga throughout your day. What's your favorite pose? Give it a try today at some point. It might become a habit that you won't mind having.
